Walking Together in the Word: Evangelising the Neighbourhood with Love and Brotherhood

“Building Communities of Faith, Prayer and Service”

A Basic Ecclesial Community (BECs) Seminar was organized with the purpose of deepening the faith of the people and encouraging them to live as a united Christian community. The seminar was a grace-filled and meaningful occasion in which around 100 faithful participated with enthusiasm, joy, and a sincere desire to grow in their relationship with God and with one another.

The seminar highlighted that the Church is not only a place where we gather for Holy Mass, but also a living community where every baptized person has a role to play. Through Basic Ecclesial Communities, the faithful are encouraged to come together in small groups for prayer, sharing of the Word of God, faith formation, mutual support, and service to those in need.

During the seminar, the participants were reminded of the words of Jesus: “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them” (Matthew 18:20). This message became an important inspiration for the participants. The BECs are a beautiful way of experiencing the presence of Christ in our families, neighbourhoods, and communities.

The seminar also emphasized the importance of listening to the Word of God and putting it into practice. The participants were encouraged not only to hear the Gospel but also to become witnesses of the Gospel through their daily lives. Prayer, forgiveness, love, compassion, unity, and service were presented as essential values for building strong Christian communities.

Formation of two BECs Units

One of the important fruits of the seminar was the formation of two Basic Ecclesial Community units. Each unit was placed under the patronage of a saint, so that the members may be inspired by the saint's life, faith, prayer, courage, and service.

The two units will become small communities of faith where members can meet regularly, pray together, reflect on the Sunday readings, share their joys and difficulties, support one another, and reach out to people who are in need.

The patron saints will serve as spiritual models for the members. Just as the saints faithfully followed Christ in their own circumstances, the members of these BECs units are encouraged to follow Jesus with commitment and to become instruments of God's love in their families and neighbourhoods.

Spiritual Fruits of the Seminar

The seminar created a deeper awareness among the participants that faith becomes stronger when it is shared and lived in community. The gathering helped people to recognize that every person is important in the life and mission of the Church.

The participants were encouraged to:

• Pray together and strengthen their personal relationship with Jesus.
• Read and reflect upon the Word of God regularly.
• Participate actively in the life of the parish.
• Support families and those who are facing difficulties.
• Visit and encourage the sick, elderly, and lonely.
• Promote unity, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
• Become witnesses of Christ through love and service.
• Encourage children and young people to grow in faith.
• Reach out to the poor and people on the margins of society.

The seminar also reminded everyone that BECs should not become merely an organizational group. It should be a community centred on Christ, nourished by prayer and the Word of God, strengthened by the Eucharist, and expressed through loving service.

A Community of Mission

The formation of these two units is not an end in itself but the beginning of a new journey. The members are called to become missionary disciples who bring the love of Christ into their homes and neighbourhoods. Every family can become a place of prayer. Every small community can become a place where people experience God's love. Every member can become an instrument of peace, hope, and reconciliation.

The success of the BECs will depend on the active participation, cooperation, and commitment of all its members. Regular meetings, prayer services, Bible sharing, faith formation, and charitable activities can help these communities to grow spiritually and become a strong support for the parish.

Conclusion

The BECs Seminar was a blessed and fruitful experience for all the participants. The participation of approximately 100 people and the formation of four saint-patron BECs units are significant steps forward in strengthening the faith community. We thank Almighty God for His abundant blessings and for bringing so many people together in faith and fellowship. We are grateful to all those who organized, guided, and participated in the seminar and contributed to its success.

May the Holy Spirit guide these four BECs units and make them living communities of faith, prayer, love, unity, and service. May the intercession of their patron saints inspire every member to follow Christ faithfully and to become a blessing to families, the parish, and society.
