Commission for Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs)

To build the Church as a communion of communities, where the Word, prayer and life are shared in small neighbourhood groups.

MISSION TRAJECTORY

The Commission for the Basic Ecclesial Communities aims to establish in every parish a Communion of Communities rooted in the Word of God and the Eucharist. It will be a reflection of togetherness which is the figure of the body of Christ, the Church, where every member contributes to the well-being and growth of the whole body, and thereby the Community becomes 'A NEW WAY OF BEING CHURCH.' To achieve this aim the community gathers for prayer, reading and reflecting on the Word of God and being inspired they move forward to a common and concrete task of the wellbeing of the surrounding.

  • Identify and train parish animators.
  • Establish BECs in all parishes.
  • Form parish animation teams.
  • Conduct basic faith formation for laity.
  • Initiate children's participation in BECs.

Medium Term

  • Provide advanced training for animators.
  • Ensure regular and structured BEC meetings.
  • Strengthen parish & deanery animation teams.
  • Expand lay leadership formation programs.
  • Increase children and youth participation.

Long Term

2032-2033Expansion
  • Ensure self-sustaining and active BECs.
  • Develop second-line leadership.
  • Integrate BECs into full parish life.
  • Promote missionary outreach through BECs.
  • Achieve strong participation of families and children.

GOALS, OBJECTIVES & KPIs

Our Pastoral Priorities

A participatory 'Communion of Communities' is fostered.

OBJECTIVE 01

Training Priests and Religious to draw the best from the laity in being 'A New Way of the Church.'

KPIs

  • By November 2027, 50% of Priests and 30% Religious sisters understand the role of laity and by October 2028, at least 20 parishes report collaborative (synodal) functioning.

OBJECTIVE 02

Establishing and strengthening BEC structures in parishes.

KPIs

  • By December 2027, 20 Parishes are trained in BECs and by December 2028, 20 more Parishes trained in BECs and by December 2033, in 53 parishes BECs are active and functioning well.

OBJECTIVE 03

Forming and equipping Parish and Deanery animation Teams.

KPIs

  • By July 2027, a 5 member animation Teams in 10 Parishes is formed.
  • By April 2028, animation team of 10 more Parishes and by December 2028, 20 animation Teams formed and by November 2030, 10 member animation teams are formed in 5 deaneries.
  • By December 2033, at least 50% of trained parishes and deanery animation teams demonstrate capacities to train others.

OBJECTIVE 04

Promoting active participation of children and youth in BEC life.

KPIs

  • By September 2028, 20% children in all the deanery are trained in BEC.
  • By December 2030, 50% youth in all the deanery are trained in BEC.
