Together in Faith and Fellowship: Phatak Majri Embraces the BEC Vision
A Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) Seminar was organized at St. Anthony’s Church, Phatak Majri, on 13 September 2026, with the participation of approximately 130 parishioners. The seminar was facilitated by Rev. Fr. Stephen Masih, Secretary of the Basic Ecclesial Community.
The seminar aimed to introduce the faithful to the vision, purpose, and importance of Basic Ecclesial Communities and to encourage greater participation of the laity in the life and mission of the Church. It also sought to strengthen Christian fellowship and community life at the grassroots level.
During the session, Fr. Stephen Masih explained the meaning and purpose of Basic Ecclesial Communities and highlighted their significance in fostering a deeper Christian life within the parish.
He emphasized the importance of coming together in small communities for prayer, reflection on the Word of God, faith sharing, fellowship, mutual support, and Christian service.
The participants were encouraged to take an active role in developing BECs and to make these communities concrete means of strengthening their relationship with God and with one another. The interaction during the seminar enabled the faithful to gain a clearer understanding of the purpose and practical functioning of BECs, while also helping them recognize their responsibility in building a more active, united, and participatory parish community.
A significant outcome of the seminar was the formation of four Basic Ecclesial Community units in the parish. These communities are expected to meet regularly and journey together in faith through prayer, faith sharing, fellowship, and Christian service.
The seminar received a positive and encouraging response from the parishioners. The participation of approximately 130 people reflected their interest in and openness to the BEC initiative.
The formation of the four BEC units marks an important step forward for St. Anthony’s Church, Phatak Majri. It is hoped that these communities will continue to grow as vibrant centres of prayer, fellowship, faith sharing, mutual support, and Christian service, thereby strengthening the spiritual and pastoral life of the parish.
The seminar thus proved to be a fruitful pastoral initiative, inspiring the faithful to move beyond individual expressions of faith towards a more active, participatory, and community-centred experience of being Church at the grassroots.
