“Sing the Word & Live the Word”
A New Initiative of the Commission for Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) and Bible
The Commission for Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) and Bible is launching a new and creative initiative to help the faithful encounter, experience, and live the Word of God in their daily lives through song and Scripture.
As part of this initiative, a Bible Verse Singing Competition (in English or Hindi Or Punjabi) is being organised, open to all members of the faithful. Participants are invited to sing the selected passage from the Gospel according to Matthew, Chapter 5 (Matthew 5:1-12), keeping the biblical text exactly as it is, while expressing the beauty and depth of God’s Word through melody.

The initiative aims not merely to promote singing, but to encourage the faithful to listen to the Word, meditate upon it, internalise it, and experience its transforming power in everyday life. Through this creative expression, the Word of God can become a living prayer and a source of faith, inspiration, and witness.
Parish-Level
The competition will begin at the parish level. Each parish is encouraged to organise the competition and record the performances of the participants. From the parish-level entries, the best two performances are to be selected and forwarded to Fr. Stephen Masih no later than October 6, 2026.
The selected entries will then be considered for the final recognition.
Celebrating the Gift of God’s Word
The best performances will be honoured and awarded on the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, making the occasion a joyful celebration of faith, Scripture, creativity, and community.
This initiative invites every parish and every faithful person to discover that God’s Word is not merely to be read or heard, but to be prayed, sung, lived, and shared.
