Search, Understand, Live and Share: A New Approach to Catechesis

The Commission for Faith Formation, North Region organised a sharing and interactive session for catechism teachers at Bishop’s House, Jalandhar.

The session focused on activity-based catechesis for children of Classes I–X, with participants sharing creative methods such as songs, art and craft, drawing, card-making and other interactive activities. Eight catechism teachers from the Diocese of Simla-Chandigarh participated in the programme.

A renewed pedagogy of “Search – Understand – Live – Share” was emphasised, encouraging children to discover the faith, understand it, live it and share it with others.

The gathering also explored regional activities for children, including Bible quizzes, biblical plays based on parables, drawing, Gospel singing, literary writing and portraying biblical characters, particularly during April.

The interactive gathering fostered communion, collaboration and mutual learning, inspiring catechism teachers to make faith formation more creative, joyful, experiential and child-centred.

The Commission expressed gratitude to Most Rev. Dr. Jose Sebastian, Bishop of Jalandhar, for his support, and to Fr. Subin, Sr. Joswin and the team for their hospitality and coordination.
