Sacred Heart School, Chandigarh Celebrates Van Mahotsav with a Commitment to a Greener Tomorrow

Upholding its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable living, Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Sector 26, Chandigarh, celebrated Van Mahotsav 2026 on the theme "Healing the Earth Through Greener Initiatives." The programme was jointly organised by Woodsia Alpina – the Eco Club and Umeed – the Interact Club, inspiring students to become responsible custodians of nature.

The celebration was graced by Ms. Nidhi Srivastava, IFS Cadre – Punjab, as the Chief Guest, and Rtn. Mrs. Teena Avninder Virk, President, Rotary Club Chandigarh, as the Guest of Honour. The school also had the privilege of welcoming Rev. Fr. Xavier and Rev. Fr. Stephan, whose presence added grace and spiritual significance to the occasion. Ms. Virk introduced Operation Shuddhi, a Rotary Club initiative dedicated to plastic waste recovery and recycling, which was formally inaugurated at the event.

The programme featured a series of performances built around the theme of environmental awareness, including a classical Kathak performance, a choir rendition of songs celebrating trees, a student-led podcast on ecological challenges, a poem recitation, a Nature Interest Litigation (NIL) skit dramatizing environmental accountability, and an energetic Punjabi folk dance.

In her address, Rev. Sr. Venita Joseph, Principal, highlighted the enduring green legacy of St. Francis of Assisi, reminding students that caring for creation is both a moral responsibility and a way of life. She encouraged every Heartian to adopt sustainable practices and contribute meaningfully towards protecting the planet.
