Laying the Foundation for a Brighter Tomorrow: St. Joseph’s Convent School Begins in Dirba

A new chapter in value-based education began in Dirba with the Blessing and Foundation Stone Laying of St. Joseph’s Convent School on Wednesday, 16 September 2026. The occasion was graced by Most Rev. Dr. Sahaya Thatheus Thomas, Bishop of Simla-Chandigarh Diocese, along with members of the local civil administration, Rev. Fathers, Sisters and a large gathering of people from Dirba and the surrounding areas.

The initiative of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart (DSH) follows an in-depth study of the region and an understanding of the aspirations of the people for quality education for the coming generation. The proposed school aims to provide quality, value-based, holistic and future-oriented education, with emphasis on both academic excellence and the integral formation of children.

The programme began at 11:00 a.m. with a welcome and prayer, followed by the blessing of the site and laying of the Foundation Stone by Bishop Sahaya Thatheus Thomas.

The commemorative plaque was then unveiled by the Bishop and Sr. Jyoti, Provincial of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart. The historic moment was witnessed with joy by the gathering, including many who were experiencing such a foundation stone laying for the first time.

The Bishop and Sr. Jyoti subsequently interacted with the local media, highlighting the DSH mission of providing education rooted in human values, character formation and holistic development. They also spoke of the contribution of DSH convent schools across India in promoting value-based education.

The gathering concluded with a fellowship meal, bringing everyone together in an atmosphere of gratitude, joy and fellowship.
The foundation laid at Dirba marks more than the beginning of an educational institution; it represents a shared commitment to nurturing young minds, forming compassionate and responsible citizens, and building a future rooted in faith, values, knowledge and service. With this new initiative, the Daughters of the Sacred Heart look forward to contributing meaningfully to the educational and holistic development of the children and families of Dirba and the surrounding region.
