Good Samaritan Aid: Equipping Children for a Better Future
A Pastoral Initiative of Manav Vikas Samiti - Social Apostolate
Manav Vikas Samiti, Social Work Apostolate, has initiated its pastoral plan outreach programme called “Good Samaritan Aid”, with the motto “Equip a Child. Empower a Future.” The initiative aims to support poor and needy students in their education and encourage them to work towards a brighter future.
The programme was initiated at St. Anthony’s Church, Phatak Majri, by Fr. Lenin Henry, Assistant Secretary to the Social Apostolate of the Diocese and Patiala Social Work Coordinator. The youth of the parish have enthusiastically joined the initiative and decided to contribute ₹50 per person every week towards the programme.
The collected contributions are used to purchase essential educational materials such as books, notebooks, pens, pencils, sharpeners, geometry boxes and school shoes, along with basic ration support for needy students and their families.
Every Saturday, after praying the Holy Rosary in the home of one of the youth families, the youth visit a poor family in the locality and distribute the materials and assistance. The purpose is not only to provide material help but also to encourage and motivate children to continue their education with confidence and hope.
The initiative is carried out with the blessings and guidance of Rev. Fr. John Bosco, Parish Priest, and with the support and guidance of Rev. Fr. Titus Babu, Secretary to the Social Apostolate, and Rev. Fr. Vianney, Coordinator of Commissions.
Fr. Lenin Henry has also encouraged other parishes to adopt this initiative by coordinating with their youth groups and parish Social Work Coordinators, so that more poor and deserving students can be reached and supported.
The Good Samaritan Aid programme is a small but meaningful expression of Christian charity and solidarity. Through the active participation of the youth, it seeks to transform small acts of sharing into greater opportunities for children and hope for their future.
