Faith in Action: North Region Explores New Pathways in Catechesis
The Commission for Faith Formation, North Region, organised a regional-level Faith Formation Programme at Bishop’s House, Civil Lines, Jalandhar, under the guidance of Most Rev. Dr. Deepak Tauro, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Delhi and Chairman of the Commission, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
The gathering brought together 26 participants comprising priests and laity from the Archdiocese of Delhi and the Dioceses of Jammu-Srinagar, Jalandhar and Simla-Chandigarh.
The programme, themed “Exploring Regional-Level Faith Formation Programme,” provided a platform to share experiences, good practices and creative approaches to catechesis.
A significant focus was the promotion of YOUCAT in the respective dioceses and the sharing of methods used for teaching catechism to Classes I–X. Participants highlighted creative methods such as songs, art and craft, drawing, card-making and activity-based learning to make catechesis joyful, engaging and participatory.
The participants also explored a renewed pedagogy based on “Search – Understand – Practise – Live – Share,” encouraging children to move from learning about faith to understanding, practising, living and sharing it.
The gathering further discussed regional programmes for children, proposing activities such as Bible quizzes, biblical plays based on parables, drawing, Gospel singing, literary writing and portraying biblical characters, particularly during April, to deepen children’s engagement with Scripture and faith through creativity.
The participants were also informed about the National Faith Formation Conference, scheduled for October 27–29, 2026, at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Jalandhar.
The programme concluded with Holy Mass offered by Rev. Fr. Manika Raju (Archdiocese of Delhi) and concelebrated by Fr. Joseph (Jammu), Fr. John Maria Vianney (Simla-Chandigarh), Fr. Geo Jacob (Delhi) and Fr. Marcus Hans (Jalandhar).
The gathering was a fruitful experience of communion, collaboration and mutual learning, strengthening the shared commitment to make faith formation creative, experiential, participatory and rooted in Christian life, especially for children and young people.
The meeting concluded with a note of gratitude to Most Rev. Dr. Jose Sebastian, Bishop of Jalandhar, for his support, and to Fr. Subin, Sr. Joswin and the team for their hospitality and coordination.
