Compassion in Care, Communion in Christ: Meeting of Catholic Nurses of Chandigarh Deanery
The Diocese of Simla–Chandigarh organised a gathering of Catholic nurses on 13 September 2026 at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Sector 19, Chandigarh, under the inspiring theme “Compassion in Care, Communion in Christ.” Around 50 Catholic nurses participated in the gathering, which aimed at strengthening faith, fellowship and commitment to the healing mission of the Church.
The programme began with the lighting of the lamp, Scripture reading and prayer, followed by a warm welcome by Sr. Reena, CSSH, and self-introduction of the participants.
The highlight of the gathering was the inspiring address by Most Rev. Dr. Sahaya Thatheus Thomas, Bishop of Simla–Chandigarh. Reflecting on the Mission of Christ, the Bishop reminded the nurses that caring for the sick and suffering is a beautiful participation in Christ’s healing ministry.
He particularly encouraged Catholic nurses to live and witness their Catholic identity through their profession. Sharing meaningful life examples, he exhorted them to be role models in the Church and society, witnessing to Christ through compassion, integrity, humility and loving service.
Fr. Vianney presented the vision, mission and pastoral plan for the Health Apostolate, encouraging greater collaboration and participation of healthcare professionals in the Church’s mission.
A significant moment was the election of the new team for the Chandigarh Deanery Health Apostolate:

The newly elected team was warmly congratulated and entrusted with the responsibility of strengthening fellowship, faith formation and the healing mission among Catholic health professionals.
The participants also had an opportunity to share their experiences and challenges in their ministry, making the gathering a meaningful platform for mutual listening, encouragement and support.
Mrs. Kritika, Mohali, expressed words of gratitude to the Bishop, clergy, religious and all the participants for their presence and support.
The programme concluded with refreshments and fellowship, leaving everyone renewed in faith and commitment.
The gathering beautifully reaffirmed that healthcare is not merely a profession but a vocation through which the compassionate and healing presence of Christ continues to touch lives.
